A new year is underway, and Payslip kicked off a new season of informative webinars last week. This time the topic was very topical as so many global payroll professionals are really keen to find out the best way to drive their multi-country payroll processes from the world's most popular Human Capital Management system, Workday.
Mary Holland was on hosting duties as normal and lending her considerable expertise to the subject-and we were also delighted to welcome Rob Bult, a very experienced HR technology project manager and Workday consultant to share his views on a recent implementation that he did involving both Workday and Payslip. You can view our recording of the webinar here - some of the key takeaways are outlined below.
Workday is a wonderful HCM, hugely popular worldwide for good reason. But when it comes to global payroll, there have always been major data related challenges that have made it difficult for global payroll professionals to drive payroll from Workday in a way that works for their organisation.

The challenge and how Payslip solves it
Not all data needed for payroll is stored in Workday. It’s in lots of places: payroll software, local country provider systems, finance and ERP systems, benefits systems and more. Workday uses Custom Cloud Tenant Payroll Provider (CCTPP) to connect with third party local payroll providers. But only the data which is in Workday can be transferred to the local payroll provider- and each provider will have a specific template to receive this data. There is no automation and integration. So, you need a solution that ties all the data together in a way that lets you drive global payroll from Workday.
Payslip integrates with Workday and orchestrates all the dataflows, checks and approvals needed to run global payroll. The platform integrates all employee payroll data – from Workday and ALL other sources and then exports payslips & tax documents back into Workday. Pre-built connectors means the data flows seamlessly from Workday to Payslip and it works for both PECI files and Workday Reports. It’s all fully automated so no requirement for manual input of Workday HCM data into Payslip. This is why Payslip is the missing link that bridges the integration gap between Workday and multiple data sources.
Client example: Suitsupply
Rob Bult talked to us about his recent experiences with Suitsuppy- he managed a Payslip implementation project at Suitsupply who use Workday and talked about the challenges they had and how things are different there now post the implementation

This was a large global transformation project at Suitsupply, a retail client with 17 countries and 29 payrolls in scope, covering 2,000+ employees globally. They had payroll data in multiple locations with no integrations and there was a huge reliance on cumbersome and time-consuming manual work in the pre payroll stage compiling data from multiple sources.
“You need to have Workday and Global payroll aligned. What I see is people are focussed on HR and believe payroll comes afterwards. But it is best to think about your payroll integration as soon as possible. This make sense from a data perspective”
Rob Bult
HR technology Project Manager/ Workday Consultant
Rob came in with Workday before Payslip were involved. He talked to payroll people, employees and many other stakeholders to understand what they were trying to achieve, and they told him that one of their core goals was to remove the layers of complexity that were currently undermining their multicountry payroll process.
Rob quickly set up a master HR data hub and focussed on getting the payroll data. Suitsupply used the Legion software for their time and attendance data and then implemented Payslip to manage their global payroll. So, there was a lot going on!
Payslip proved to be a much more agile and flexible option than attempting to process loads of PECI files for all the Suitsupply payroll countries and Rob talked about how Payslip being vendor independent was key. This is something that a lot of global organisations are now looking for-the ability to choose, manage, maintain or swap out local country payroll providers whenever they need or want to, and Payslip is the only technology provider that allows you to do this.
The result was Suitsupply developed a fully integrated payroll data process across Workday, Payslip and Legion in a much quicker timescale than they thought was possible. Rob worked with implementation teams on both sides coordinating everything in the project to create the best solution for Suitsupply’s specific HR and global payroll data needs. Payroll dataflows from Workday in Suitsupply are now automated for seamless data transfer across to local country vendors. And payslips and employee tax docs are sent direct to Workday HCM for easy access by the global workforce at Suitsupply
This is a great customer example of how Payslip integrates with Workday and orchestrates all the dataflows, checks and approvals needed to run global payroll in a way that allows organizations to maximize their Workday Investment and get the full return on investment from this excellent HCM. Global companies can use Payslip to orchestrate their payroll processes exactly the way they need to and transfer all payroll data across to their local vendors. They are back in control of their multicountry payroll delivery and management and driving the process from their Workday HCM.
