GetYourGuide is the premier site for booking experiences across the globe. Since 2009, the company has shown travellers the best of their destinations: whether it’s skipping the line to the top of the Eiffel Tower, taking a traditional cooking class in Rome, or discovering Amsterdam by bike.
GetYourGuide had a pressing need for comprehensive global payroll reporting in order to help them identify key payroll cost trends that could help them understand their current payroll & benefit costs and assist them in planning for future growth.
The lack of standardization in their process resulted in separate, unique data flows for each of their payroll countries, making it difficult to extract key payroll information and statistics in a uniform and standardized way. Each country on their payroll featured different categories and pay element classification structures.
Covid-19 created an urgent need for both cost management and future planning initiatives, and they were keen to create a level of standardized global reporting that would result in reporting for country cost comparisons, employee locations and future global payroll cost projections.
The Payslip Solution
The first step in the project was to select a country and collaborate with colleagues in GetYourGuide and the local country provider to establish a framework for classifying and categorizing specific payroll elements. Once a framework was established with one individual country, then a similar process could be rolled out to ensure the other countries on their payroll aligned to the new classification structure.
First up was Germany and a co-ordinated collaboration between Payslip, GetYourGuide’s payroll team and their local counterparts in Germany. Payslip assessed the current classifications in place, suggested changes, and worked to introduce standard elements that could then be duplicated across several countries.
We adjusted existing categories, created some entirely new categories, and found suitable locations for a range of payrun elements such as deductions, pensions, social taxes, bonus& severance, and many others. We created a series of categories capable of capturing a range of data inputs in a standardized format that could pave the way for comprehensive global reporting.
We also introduced them to the exchange rate functionality within our platform, which allowed them to select a currency for reporting purposes and also express multiple country payroll expenses in a single currency to help with financial management and planning. This flexible tool means you can run reports in local currency but also convert to another currency in order to analyse the impact of exchange rate changes.

Digital tools for customizing and filtering crucial global payroll reports
Payslip delivered a series of newly classified pay run elements that standardized the data flows across more than 15 GetYourGuide payroll countries. This then enabled them to take full advantage of Payslip’s reporting tools to create reporting on a global level while also enabling reports to be filtered into sub-categories for more granular, detailed analysis.
GetYourGuide payroll professionals and finance team members are now in a position to schedule and customize global payroll reports by country or any entity that provides employer salary, benefit costs and employer tax expenses. They can get immediate real-time results for total employer cost percentages and also run reports that help them to predict future costs in a specific location.
