Hosted by the Global Payroll Management Institute (GPMI), the GPW aims to increase global payroll professional’s skill levels through education, training, and networking opportunities, along with raising the visibility of the global payroll industry.
Global Payroll Week coincides with the celebration of International Workers’ Day and is a celebration of employees and labourers around the globe. Often referred to as May Day, this annual holiday, occurs on 1st of May and traces its roots back to an ancient European spring festival.
In dozens of countries, May Day is an official national holiday but don’t let its ancient roots fool you. The day isn’t all about dancing around maypoles. Many labour rights campaigners and trade unions use the day to heavily promote and publicize their agendas for worker’s rights across the globe.
