The US government has introduced legislative changes to respond to the devastating economic impact of COVID-19. These changes affect employers, employees, and payroll professionals. A range of temporary measures have been signed into law as the US economy looks to responds to the urgent needs of the labour force. Here, you can find a summary of some of the key measures in the US and links to further information.

Economic Impact Payments

The majority of U.S. residents – under certain income levels – can apply for the Economic Impact Payment if they meet eligibility criteria.

  • Qualifying individuals may receive up to $1,200. Married couples may receive up to $2,400.
  • Qualifying individuals may receive up to $500 for each eligible child
  • Eligible individuals must have a Social Security number.

CARES ACT

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020. This scheme offers financial relief to companies, small businesses, and individuals struggling to meet financial obligations due to the COVID-19 crisis.
